FAQ – Gatineau

What is consignment?
Consignment allows you to sell your clothing and fashion accessories through La Femme d'À Côté Boutique. You (the consignor) retain ownership of the garment until it is sold or returned to you if it has not been sold by the end of the season.

Why consign your clothes?
Your wardrobe is full of clothes that are always in style, but you still want to renew it? Boutique La Femme d'À Côté is there to help you do just that, while giving you the opportunity to get cash back on merchandise sold to our customers.

How do you consign your clothes?

Bring us your dresses, skirts, coats, handbags, shoes, jewellery and various accessories. We'll work out the selling price with you and you'll receive 40% of the final sale price.

Please leave the tags on worn garments as well as the sale tags on unworn garments: customers like to see the money they save by comparing the purchase price of the consignment item with the original price.

With or without an appointment?

Consignment is by appointment only. Please contact us at 819 777-1460.

We reserve the right to refuse items that we believe we are unable to sell. We will contact you so that you can take them back if necessary.

What items can you consign and when can you bring them in?

We accept high quality clothing and accessories that meet the following criteria:

- lightly worn or unworn clothing and accessories under 2 years old
- in excellent condition
- clean or dry-cleaned
- well presented (folded correctly or on hangers),
- no smoke odor or animal hair
- free of tears or stains.

What we accept

Premium women's clothing (work, casual, sports or evening wear) (insert hyperlink to accepted brands and accessories);

- Shoes, sandals and boots in good condition;
- Handbags, travel bags, clutches;
- Belts;
- Hats, scarves and shawls;
- Coats (except fur coats);
- Jewellery and sunglasses.

We reserve the right to refuse clothing and accessories if we already have several similar items in shop.

What we do not accept

- Clothing over 3 years old;
- Stained or discoloured items;
- Items with a strong odour, signs of wear or missing parts;
- Clothing with holes or faulty zips;
- Men's and children's clothing and accessories;
- Fur coats, unless they are ‘funky’;
- Swimwear and lingerie;

Certain brands of clothing that are low-end but in good condition (Suzy Shier, Garage, Forever 21, Jos Fresh, Jessica, Georges, etc.) because they are already affordable.

When can you drop off your clothes and accessories?

Items are accepted on consignment depending on the season:

- Autumn-winter season: deposit from August to early December;
- Spring-summer season: from mid-January to June.

How many items do we accept at a time?

We accept a maximum of 10 items at a time (including accessories) so that we can prepare and display them in-store to increase your sales potential.

What do we do with unsold items?

At the time of deposit, you will be informed of the period during which you can leave your clothing and accessories (usually 4 to 6 weeks following the date on which the end-of-season Red Dot sale begins). If your items are not sold and you do not collect them, they become the property of Boutique La Femme d'À Côté, which reserves the right to donate them to a local charity.

How do you get paid for the items you sell?

You can receive the proceeds of your sales in cash for amounts under $50.

Any amount over $50 is paid to you by cheque. You can also reuse the amount of your sales and deduct it from the amount you have to pay the next time you make a purchase.

If you absolutely insist on being paid in cash for amounts over $50, please contact us at least 48 hours in advance so that we can accommodate you.

We reserve the right to modify the sale price if the garment is stained or damaged.
